Beta Theta Pi
Delta Kappa, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville
Beta Theta Pi is one of the oldest social fraternities still around, and one of the largest as well. We were founded by a group of eight gentlemen, of ever honored memory, at Miami University of Ohio in 1839. Since then, Beta has led the fraternity world in achievement, such as being the first fraternity to openly publish its constitution, and being the first to set a mandatory GPA for brothers (originally a 2.5, but
more recently, a 2.7, the highest GPA standard ever set by a
fraternity).
The Delta Kappa chapter was, until recently, located in a small house away from the main Fraternity Row, and subsequently a smaller chapter than other fraternities on campus; but this year we are moving into a new fraternity house on Fraternity Row! With the new house comes huge
potential for incoming new members, not merely in bolstering the size of the chapter, but rather in immediately taking a part in the shaping of the fraternity in its new location. There are many opportunities to become a leader in the chapter soon after being initiated.
