Delta Tau Delta was founded on the values of Truth, Courage, Faith, and Power in 1858 at Bethany College in present day West Virginia by eight young men who wanted to end the political machine of the campus. Out of that desire for justice has grown a fraternity that is recognized across the nation as a fraternal leader and an organization that produces men of integrity, accountability, learning, and brotherhood. In fact Delta Tau Delta has produced men such as John Elway, Dan Abrams, Will Ferrell, Drew Storen and John Lynch along with three current governors, five congressmen, two former vice presidents, two former supreme court justices, many CEO’s and Chairmen of companies, three astronauts, dozens of actors, lots of musicians, countless professional athletes, and even a 4-time olympic gold medalist.
The brothers of the Delta Delta chapter here at the University of Tennessee strive to live out the four values put down by our founders over 150 years ago to the best of our ability. As such we keep very active on campus both as individuals and as a group. Individually we have brothers who are Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders, Ignite Team Leaders, Student Alumni Associates, Orange Pride recruiters, IFC officers, Honors College students, and members and leaders of a myriad of other clubs and organizations. As a chapter, this past year we won greek week with the ladies of Phi Mu and competed in All-sing. On the social side, we also participate in many philanthropies and mixers, and hold at least one formal every semester. And next year we will participate in our first homecoming with the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi. All of this has earned us the honor of being the second best chapter on campus as recognized by our Interfraternity Council.
While we have lots of fun, we are sure to make our academics our first priority as brothers. Together we work to help our brothers achieve academic success by holding mandatory study hours and being available for each other whenever one brother needs help. We maintain an average GPA above the all male and all fraternity average and our most recent fall pledge class was lauded for having the highest GPA among all other pledge classes that fall. For those of exceptional scholarship we offer over 15,000 dollars of scholarships to members of our chapter alone and nationally Delta Tau Delta has a scholarship recognition program called the Kershner’s Scholars Program which rewards above average scholarship that is maintained over many semesters.
We are also committed to developing and producing men of strong character and integrity. We accomplish that through new member education to instill our values and events put on by the national fraternity such as division conferences and Karnea, our biennial national conference. But the best personal development opportunity we offer as a fraternity are our leadership academies which are unmatched by any other fraternity. They include things like sailing for a week in Maine, learning about Native American leadership and visiting the Battle of Little Bighorn, and visiting our fraternity’s birthplace to learn more about our founders and values. These academies are three day to week long personal development experiences which serve to grow brothers as men to better prepare them for life after college. All of this and much more await you if you decide to go Delt.
