Sigma Nu

On a clear January night in 1869, upon the parade grounds of the Virginia Military Institute, Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded by three cadets opposed to the system of “hazing” engrained in the University culture. While maintaining a firm opposition to hazing of any kind, Sigma Nu Fraternity is dedicated to love, truth, and honor, and has since grown to include 278 Chapters on campuses across the Nation with well over 250,000 current Brothers- making it among the top Fraternities in the United States. The Epsilon Eta Chapter of Sigma Nu was founded in 1921, and through the ideals of our Fraternity, rank consistently among the top Houses on campus athletically, academically, and socially. Our Chapter participate in every intramural sport, consistently placing in football, baseball, and floor hockey, and participation is highly encouraged. Academically, every Candidate is required to attend mandatory study hours, and academic excellence is not only encouraged, by rewarding with scholarships for those Members with the highest GPA’s. While Sigma Nu believes strongly in athletics and academics, we believe that a well-rounded college experience is not complete without and active social schedule. Sigma Nu holds a band party after every home football game, as well as numerous Sorority mixers and date-parties throughout the year. We have won our Float division two out of the last three years, and last year placed 3rd in Homecoming overall. Every Sigma Nu is highly encouraged to expand his horizons athletically, academically and socially, and we can guarantee that our Chapter offers an experience unlike any other at the University of Tennessee.
